Looking to have an enhanced and delicious reading experience? Well, Emely, our Bookish Foodie and graduate of the San Francisco Cooking School, has a Summer Series of great hands-on cooking events for you! These classes are summer themed and provide you with specially curated food forward book recommendations along with food and drink recipes to savor as you read.
For June: Whether you are going camping or glamping in the parks or just your backyard, we have you covered with great inspirational cookery and a thought provoking read.
For July: Celebrate Independence Day beyond the 4th, with a road trip or a picnic getaway and cooking it up as you read.
For August: Wrap up your summer days of harvest with a farm to lunchbox experience, whether it’s from your garden or the local farmer’s market near you, we will cook, bake, and share in story.
What’s included:
- 1 copy of course selected Book*
- Live hands-on 2 hour zoom cooking class with book inspired recipes.
- Recipes, preparation and shopping lists
- Max attendees (10) and a minimum of 6 attendees
*You may request a store credit if you already have a copy of the book. Shipping charged separately.

These events have limited spots, and you must register in advance here or on the “Book Now” button below. One sign-up covers one device. After registering, you will get a confirmation email that contains the Zoom meeting log-in information. One week prior to class (or within 48 hours after registering, if you sign up less than a week in advance), you will receive an email with the ingredients, equipment and prep you’ll need to cook along with us, if you choose.
After class, you will receive a copy of the featured book, any recipes not from the book and any additional resources that we discuss during the event.
Refund Policy: Payments for Culinarian Bookshop A la Carte-live classes are fully refundable if canceled 1 week in advance. If less than a week prior to class, a refund for store credit can be requested. Classes are subject to cancellation at any time. In the case of cancellation by the event organizer, all paid tickets will be fully refunded.

June: Make Ahead Camping meals paired with Richard Wrangham’s award winning book, Catching Fire How Cooking made us Human.

Start your camping adventure right from your kitchen! Join us as we meal prep together for your next forest feast or backyard campout. By prepping and making a few meals ahead of time, your camping meals will come together with ease and little clean up, allowing you to enjoy more time with family and friends telling ghost stories around the campfire! Learn how to step up those camping meals with a more global menu. And let’s not forget a quick fix cocktail/mocktail to keep us warm under the stary night sky. As you sip, chop and stir, you’ll get some tips on food safety, basic knife skills and learn about Emely’s favorite outdoor cooking essentials, which always includes a good book! July: Road Trips, Picnics and Food Exploration paired with Edward Lee’s Buttermilk Graffiti, a fusion of travel writing and a chef’s memoir.

August: Farm to table for back to school lunches paired with Food Fight, by Linda B. Davis’ debut children’s novel (9-12 yrs).
Age 12+ with adult supervision

Let’s celebrate those summer flavors as we get ready to go back to school. Together we will make a healthy snack and lunch that everyone can enjoy. We will talk about the book Food Fight and foods you might enjoy that the main character, Ben Snyder, does not like. We will come up with ideas of what foods you could make for him that he might enjoy. This will be a challenge, since he is a known “picky eater.” You can have a friend join you as long as an adult is supervising.
